I am a futures trader ,What coding language do you recommend I learn so I can create some of my own statistics part time ?
I've been trading for nearly 5 years. I do not have any coding or programming experience . I mainly getting into this so I can improve my discretionary day trading. Also really just as a hobby that I can do on my spare time and when the market conditions aren't quite trade able. Since I am a newbie in coding what language would be most beneficial to aid my discretionary day trading and easy to learn? Again mainly just to come up with statistics.
I would recommend you take a look at Python, and in particular, the Anaconda python distribution (which is just a way to "ship" Python with a bunch of goodies like IDEs, packages, etc). Why? It has very natural and easy syntax for your first programming language and has a TON of statistical library/packages bundled with it. The main stats competitors would be R and Matlab, which are decent choices, but less applicable to other things. You could also start with something like Quantopian, but that won't help you much outside their ecosystem (apart from learning the basics of python). If you've literally never coded a single thing, maybe take a look at Codecademy to get a primer on the language.
As far as industry standards in the trading world, from what I understand, C++ and Python are the top languages to study at this point in time. I wont go into the details, but a compiled language like C++ is preferred for actual deployment of code due to its speed and efficiency, while Python is a great language to rough-design and do research.
