INTRODUCING: The WSO Applicant Database. Take 5 minutes on WSO to Reach Hundreds of Finance Recruiters and Finance Companies
Given that we have built up relationships with hundreds of companies and finance recruiters, we thought instead of just a simple job board (which you can find right here), we would also create a WSO Applicant Database.
This vision for the database is to allow all WSO users to create a detailed "Applicant Profile" that can be used by recruiters and companies to find great talent. It is similar to an online resume you see on LinkedIn, but with a lot more detail around actual skills relevant to financial positions, scores and certifications so that recruiters can use it to filter through candidates that are a great match for their spots.
We are going to keep this free for the WSO community and once the database is large enough, start charging recruiters and companies for access to these profiles (we expect to roll out the profile search in 4-6 weeks to our recruiter and company contacts once it is perfected).
To get started, all you have to do is click on the green button below:
Each user is allowed to only create 1 applicant profile so as to ensure you are selecting the target industry and jobs that you are actually most interested in. The applicant profiles, however, are not tied to your username, will not be index-able by Google and will only be viewable to Recruiters/Companies that pay for access.
Please let me know if you have any questions. We put in a lot of thought of what to collect in these profiles, but if you think we are missing something or have any questions, then please fire away as always!
Thanks,
Patrick
Wow, this site just keeps getting better. As an incoming first year analyst, I can already see how this will help me progress my career. It's an added tool for my arsenal, and I can't wait! Thank you for all you do, Patrick.
Looking forward to fully utilizing this application.
I'm getting access denied ... ?

lol, hilarious...try now guys :-) @"fire86" @"Skinnayyy" @"Orkid" @"henchman"
Denied for me as well. Which is probably a good thing. I should likely be doing work instead.
Are our profiles going to be modifiable after creating them? Like if we want to modify them we just press the green button again and bada bing bada boom?
good point...just updated the permission settings so you should be able to edit your profile at any time.
we will get a link to this on your profile page and the main job board page is going to get a redesign to make the options more clear for Job Seekers and Employers / Recruiters
The application name once registered is 'undergrad university name + GPA'.
Weakest part of my profile.
Also wondering how we can modify/edit our profiles?
hey guys, don't worry about the URL. that is just a way to get a unique url and will not be the emphasis of the detailed search filters.
Yes, the companies/recruiters will be able to filter by GPA and undergrad school, but they can also filter by many types of modeling skills, years experience, etc...
Same as well. Completely non target school with not that great GPA. Now I'm in graduate school and with a good GPA at a I guess Semi target.
Done. Greek added.
I assume this will be heavily skewed towards the US market, but will also have presence in Europe?
It will be global, just like our userbase :-) If you look at the list of target cities we included, there are many international finance hubs included. Thanks for the question.
Great. Can you please add Dutch to the language section? :)
Please also include Swedish. Great new addition to the community btw Patrick !
Done. Thanks :-)
done, thanks
Congratulations on continuing to make the site even more useful to the community while also hopefully making it even more profitable! It has been great to watch the evolution of the years. I assume that all information will remain confidential and only be available to recruiters, correct? I don't know if the FBI is still looking for me.
We already found you, John.
Thanks for the kind words and you are correct. The Applicant Profiles will only accessible to recruiters / companies looking to recruit.
Anyone will be able to search the database and filter to see if we have any candidates that meet their needs (with generic results like undergrad and major), but in order to actually see your profile or any contact info, they will have to sign up for a subscription.

I'm having trouble uploading my files.
I uploaded my picture and my resume. I then tried to upload three pieces of work that I've written, but upon trying to get the third one up it said that I exceeded my disk quota. I tried to delete one of them, but nothing happened, so I refreshed the page. Now when I'm trying to re-upload everything it keeps saying again that I've exceeded the disk quota.
just increased quota per user 2x to 30mb ...it work now?
Here's what I'm getting: http://i.imgur.com/as9GP0E.png
Still says 2mb limit. It's a PDF of one of my research reports, ~200kb.
Will they be able to see my name and firm before contacting me? or will they see a generic 'hedge fund analyst' title instead of my name & firm at first?
If they subscribe to the Applicant Database then they will be able to see your name and contact information. If someone that is not a subscriber runs a search looking for professionals in HFs, they would see your profile in the search results but with only generic title. So to get your name, resume, contact info, they need to #1 be subscribed and #2 run a search and #3 click into your profile once it pops up after they run their filters.
Do you have another idea of how we could make it better? I assume your concern is that your current firm may see you created an Applicant Profile on WSO? Note, we do have a selection that asks "Available to Interview Immediately?"
Thanks, Patrick
Patrick,
Maybe force subscribers to rep what firm they are with, and block all candidates currently at the same firm from their searches.
Add Hebrew as a language, obscure but you don't want to piss off every Dr. Cohen now do we.
done
I'm a little disappointed I wasn't able to choose Detroit for a target city! I mean... There's like 4 finance jobs there! haha
Detroit added :-)
haha thanks! Just for some offshoot chance that an employer there wants to hire me I'd be down with moving back home!
Can I browse this database? Or do I need some sort of employer account?
We are in the process of building the filters and search process for recruiters and employers (the initial applicant profiles we are collecting now help us with testing).
You won't need to subscribe to run searches, but you will need to subscribe ("employer account") to get the contact information of any specific contacts. We will announce pricing then.
I am hopeful that we will have it ready and launched by July 14.
Thanks, Patrick
I don't see why GPA is relevant for someone with over 2 years of work experience, it completely misrepresents the rest of my accomplishments and experience - I don't think putting myself in that position will help at all.
bro, nobody is forcing you to create an Applicant Profile and nobody said that recruiters / employers will filter by GPA. but yes, there is that option, along with 80+ other options/filters...so if you don't want to fill this out because you don't see the value or are upset that we ask GPA, then no problem.
Good luck, Patrick
Which is why you are offering it free for us, and paid subscriptions for the employers searching. It's called capitalism, and it's a free way for monkeys to get some exposure to firms. Somewhat of a win/win for employers and monkeys. I guess folks will always find a reason to complain about something that's free to them...
Great addition to the already great website. I'll fill it up soon.
Awesome... A couple of quick questions tho: -Will the list be available to public anytime in the future? Putting my personal information linkedin URL and my resume makes me worry. -Is degree/major 1 supposed to be our undergrad degree or grad? (Do I put my grad degree on "degree/major 1" and undergrad on "degree/major 2" or it's the other way around?)
Thanks,
No, your information will not be made public. I'm asking for name, phone # and personal details - and your privacy is important since I know many of you are currently already employed.
For purposes of the search, it's fine in any order. The employers / recruiters will be filtering by type of degree and major, so they will just have 1 search filter for each of those. We just have 3 spots for the applicants with multiple degrees and majors...
That answer everything?
delete
I apologize if this has already been answered, but will our current employer be able to find us once the database is open to subscribers? Thanks.
we havent developed this "blocking" capability yet, but I think we can do it as long as we force each subscriber to select the company they work for (then we exclude employees from that company from appearing...).
Will let you guys know when we get that going. as an fyi, we haven't released access yet to a wide range of employers and recruiters, but expect to launch it in early August.
I am happy to report that recruiters will now NOT be able to see you if you currently work at their specific firm. This took a bit of coding work, but will help members create an Applicant Profile without fear that their employer will see them on here. We will be tagging every recruiter with their company so that when they search, no Applicant Profiles from the same company are listed.
Any chance you can add Minneapolis?
@wallstreetoasis.com Not sure if anyone has suggested this yet, but would it be possible to have a counter showing how many times our profile and/or resume has been viewed? This gives applicants a little extra insight to the attractiveness of their profile.
Only recruiters and companies can see our profiles and no one else right?
correct!

I selected a UK University and the 'Education & Scores' section is still geared towards GPA and SAT scores. Is there an option to select regional scoring that I have missed? I noticed the GPA scale goes up to 5.0 but a 1st class UK degree counts as 4 from the brief searching I did. I'm probably doing something daft but some advice would be appreciated, even if just on converting UK grades to US equivalents (I don't think I have a Verbal SAT grade for a start...)
@"Calderwood" - I would err on the answer that you get from Patrick, but if you are ultimately given a 5 point scale and your GPA is actually on a 4 point scale, if it were me, I'd adjust mine to reflect the equivalent 5 point score. That's just my thoughts, but Patrick might be able to look into it. The worst thing an employer would have to deal with is asking how you got a 4.2 or something to that effect, which you could easily explain.
you should be entering the equivalent to a 4.0 scale. The reason there are above 4.0 is that sometimes people have over a 4.0 with some A+s counting as 4.33.
Good question though and we will make sure to make that more clear, thanks
-Patrick
that is a good news buddy
Anything related to fiannce is a great news for me..
Thank you, this is a great thing.
Should I bother registering myself if based out of Dubai?
sure, we will be having large firms perusing the database so I'm sure some of them have positions out in Dubai...can't hurt, especially since we don't have as heavy a concentration of candidates that have a target city of dubai.
UPDATE: cool new feature.
You will now be notified over PM when a recruiter has viewed your Applicant Profile and where/what company that recruiter is from!
Again, could you add Minneapolis?
I'm a student and currently not working so I want to leave the "current firm" field blank. However, it says that this field is required. Am I missing something?
@WallStreetOasis.com is this going to be heavily geared towards analysts? Will you be working with recruiters looking for undergrad students?
recruiters tend to focus on applicants with some experience, however, this is not the case for all. Also, we do expect that many companies will be using the database to source candidates directly (undergrads and experienced hires).
so we really are going to be tapping into all of our contacts for this. Heavy push coming soon :-)
Question about this: is there a way to ensure that my current employer does not see that I'm on the database?
yes, every employer that registers with us has to confirm what company they are coming from. (We tag that user with a company). If you put that you work for that company in your applicant profile, your applicant profile will not show up in searches for them.
We thought that added layer of protection would make WSO members more comfortable building their applicant profile and the database is growing nicely now!
Good question :-) Patrick
I am currently a student, and it seems that I'm not allowed to create an applicant profile without filling out the Current Firm field. Could you perhaps add an N/A option for the Current Firm field, or have that not be mandatory for the profile?
There is a firm called "None"...thanks
Thank you for this great tool Patrick! Appreciate the help.
That 'block current employer' capability is key; thank you Patrick; definitely setting up a profile
no problem...that would have scared me too ;-)
do we have to pay to apply
Definitely a good thing to do to start the New Year--thanks Pat!
How many companies actually use this thing? and what kind or size?
Should add Richmond under cities. Growing city and growing job opportunities. What constitutes "Beginner", "Intermediate", "Proficient", etc. competencies for the excel skills listed? Since those are relative could you give some sort of guidance as what achievements or measurements equal skill level?
Not sure if this question has been asked - Is there a way to filter jobs by when the application was posted or when it is due? Some of these job postings are outdated. Great work!
Would you please add Orlando as an option for the "Current City (Office or School)" field? (You may also want to add Tampa for folks at Raymond James Financial.)
This is a huge benefit for the members of this website. There are very few forums that do as much for its members as WSO does.
+1
Has anyone been contacted yet after uploading their info?
Great Initiative...Thanks
Great idea. Agree with some of the other posts though that a) GPA etc shouldn't be mandatory and b) if you want this to work internationally you need some more freedom around conventions. I.e. UK recruiters will have no idea what a GPA is, but they'll know what a 2:1 or 1st is.
Definitely helpful, thank you!
