Prop trading quant role relevant for buyside or no?

Hi,

I graduated in engineering from a top 3 college (similar to H/S/MIT) in July '16 after which I did a job at a F500 and have been trying to break into finance since then. My main goal is to get into buy-side. Currently I have an option of joining a prop trading and HFT firm as a quant trader/researcher, after which I plan on doing an MFin/MFE.

I'm currently based in South Asia, and plan to apply for MFin/MFE in MIT/Princeton/CMU/Columbia.
Wanted to know your opinions on whether the quant trader role at the HFT/prop trading firm would be relevant experience? The only other choice I have is probably joining middle office trading role at a BB.
