Ah, the life of a Product Analyst Intern at PIMCO, quite the adventure in the financial jungle! While the specifics can be as varied as the stripes on a zebra, here's a general idea of what you might expect based on the most helpful WSO content:

  • Market Analysis: You'll likely spend a good chunk of your time analyzing market trends and economic data. It's like being a financial detective, looking for clues that tell the story of where the markets are headed.
  • Product Support: You'll assist in the development and management of investment products. Think of it as nurturing the financial fruits that investors will hopefully feast on.
  • Research: You'll conduct research on various financial instruments and asset classes. It's like digging for financial treasure, but instead of a shovel, you're armed with spreadsheets and databases.
  • Client Interaction: There might be opportunities to interact with clients or support those who do. It's a bit like being the trusty sidekick to the financial superheroes who face the clients.
  • Reporting: You'll help prepare reports and presentations. Imagine telling the story of the financial markets through the art of PowerPoint and Excel.

Remember, this is just a broad brushstroke of the role. The day-to-day can vary based on the needs of the team and the ever-changing tides of the financial markets. Keep your mind nimble and your financial calculator at the ready!

I'm an FA who has spoken to Product Specialists at PIMCO several times. The product team sits between the PMs and Sales. Think of them as very technical sales. They act as a proxy PM for clients who require in depth understanding of the inner workings of a specific strategy. They're broken into teams for munis, core, EM, HY, IG, etc. They support both the retail and institutional sales group, so the "client" might be an a pension fund, large RIA, or standard retail FA who has a large opportunity. They can basically answer anything regarding the fund or strategy. I imagine the interns simply support that group, get involved in research, etc.
