Accenture?: insights and thoughts?

Sidebar... a friend with a prior IB background (associate) switched to Accenture 2 years ago and worked as a Sr. Manager in their M&A corporate strategy group. Coincidentally just left Accenture to entertain prospects into PE, HF etc.

He's been talking to me ad nauseum about a move to Accenture. I'm not sold. If Accenture is so hot why did HE leave?

Anyways, anyone have any insights into Accenture?
Any insights into their corporate strategy, M&A team?
How much of their strategy work is really "pure" strategy?
Anyone know folks who left IB to Accenture? If so, what role?

Just exploring an idea...

What is it for?

Acc intern --> new firm intern?

Acc FT --> new firm FT

Acc intern --> new firm FT?

I actually don't know the answer, but this information may help others answer it.

your comparing domains vs industry group. Resources would do everything from Systems integration to low level mgmt consulting work. ACN strategy is a little more specialised. But from my time there, its a lot of operating model design, growth strategy (mostly for smaller firms).

Accenture is a big company friend. Are you going to be working in the strategy division?

Anyway, the Accenture kiss of death is mostly a myth. As long as you're in a relevant strategy role, you'd be eligible for lateraling

Never heard a good thing about that place. Everyone wants out, except for those who did tech degrees and love that kind of stuff. If you're going for real business consulting, you will be disappointed.

Pretty much accurate. Although I've heard some good things about them, it's from the Tech folk.

They even say on their website that you have to love technology. Or words to that effect.

Depending on your location. Some offices, their strategy work is really crappy. So no point going into it. Accenture is not really that big of a player in strategy, their main focus is always on the IT side. So to answer your question, pick what you like =) just maybe, far away from IT consulting if you're looking to transition into MBB.

are they leaving because they aren't being paid well, or because they don't enjoy it? I personally am really into tech, and so IT is a great field for me, and accenture might be then a good place for me to work at.

Do you know by any chance how well they get paid compared to their business counterparts? Are there any of them that make around 150k or so including bonus?

I don't know why people keep shitting on Accenture Management Consulting. A manager I know is leading a team to develop a go-to-market strategy for a major logistics provider. Another project that a friend is on involves renegotiating vendor relationships to deliver millions in cost savings for the client. No IT in sight for either project.

The MD who runs AMC in North America is a former McKinsey partner. There are plenty of Senior Executives (the title Accenture gives its partners) who lateraled over from MBB.

Now tell me, if the firm was really "the kiss of death", why would anyone want to destroy their careers by moving here?
