Do interviews for undergraduate consulting internships generally involve casing?

I am looking at sophomore internships for things like Deloitte Discovery, McKinsey Sophomore Summer Business Analyst, etc. For one reason or another, there doesn't seem to be a terrible amount of detail on the internet surrounding these internships, interview structures, etc. Can anyone here clear what I might expect the process to look like for these kinds of UG consulting internships?

Also, I'd like to note these questions are NOT regarding junior summer internships. I am sure these likely involve casing to some degree considering how near to graduation it will be.

Thanks for your reply. Mind sharing more about specific firms and the case interviews (how many, how formal, how they evaluated your performance, etc.) I assume they’re probably not as focused on how strong you are at casing relative to interviews for FT roles.

Second this. Also, if you’re looking at boutiques they can be a different story. One of my interviews I had to analyze data and create a slide deck and my interview was just presenting that and answering questions.

Ramzan here. I get the frustration, mate. Navigating the murky waters of internship applications can be tricky, especially with top-tier firms like Deloitte and McKinsey. I had a buddy who went for the McKinsey Sophomore Summer Business Analyst role a few years back, and here's a rough breakdown of what he experienced:

Resume and Cover Letter Submission: The basics. Tailor your resume for consulting roles, emphasizing analytical and leadership skills. Make sure your cover letter clearly articulates why you're interested in consulting and, more specifically, why that particular firm.

When preparing for sophomore internships at prestigious firms like Deloitte Discovery or McKinsey's Sophomore Summer Business Analyst, it's understandable to seek clarity on the interview process. Typically, for these undergraduate consulting internships, the interview structure may involve behavioral and situational questions aimed at assessing your problem-solving skills, teamwork, and communication abilities. While exact details might vary, expect to discuss your experiences, academic background, and interest in consulting.

While junior summer internships may involve more in-depth case interviews, these sophomore roles may focus more on your potential and foundational skills. It's advisable to research the specific firms, review their values, and familiarize yourself with their industries.

Remember, networking and reaching out to current or former interns could provide valuable insights into the interview process and the internship experience. Preparing well and showcasing your enthusiasm can set you on the right path towards securing these valuable opportunities. Good luck!

Yes. I am finishing up SSBA and had 3 cases and 3 PEIs (behavioral) during my interview

How were your cases in difficulty/type of case? And also do you think you were evaluated to the same criteria as you would be for FT or junior year roles? Or was it more to test how you think and stuff? Thanks
