McKinsey Dubai - Business Analyst post-grad?

I graduated from a European MSc program a year ago and have since then done a bunch of internships. Will soon start an entry-level job in IB, but my goal was to always work in consulting. Therefore, I am planning to apply for the Business Analyst role in McK Dubai but was unsure whether they hire people with no FT experience (as per the time of my application) and who graduated a year ago.

Any insights? Much appreciated!

Based on the most helpful WSO content, McKinsey, like many top consulting firms, does indeed hire for roles such as Business Analyst in various global offices, including Dubai. Your background, having graduated from a European MSc program and accumulated a series of internships before starting an entry-level job in Investment Banking (IB), is quite valuable. Here are a few insights that might help you:

  1. Value of Diverse Experience: McKinsey values diverse backgrounds and experiences. Your internships, coupled with the upcoming IB role, can provide a strong foundation in analytical skills, teamwork, and problem-solving, which are crucial in consulting.

  2. Timing of Application: While you mentioned concern about not having full-time experience at the time of your application, McKinsey does consider candidates who are early in their careers, especially those with strong academic backgrounds and relevant internships. Your situation of applying a year after graduation, with a mix of internships and an IB role, fits within the scope of experiences they consider.

  3. Networking and Referrals: Leveraging any networking opportunities or seeking referrals from current or former McKinsey employees can significantly enhance your application. Engaging with McKinsey's recruitment events or reaching out to alumni from your MSc program who work in consulting can provide insights and potentially open doors.

  4. Tailoring Your Application: Highlight how your unique experiences and skills make you a strong fit for the Business Analyst role. Focus on achievements that demonstrate your analytical abilities, leadership, and impact in your internships and any projects or roles within your IB job.

  5. Preparation for Interviews: Start preparing for the case interviews and the Personal Experience Interview (PEI) early. McKinsey's interview process is rigorous, and demonstrating strong problem-solving skills along with the ability to communicate your thought process clearly is key.

In summary, McKinsey does hire candidates with diverse backgrounds and experiences for their Business Analyst positions, including those with a strong academic record, relevant internships, and early career professionals. Your plan to apply for the Business Analyst role in McKinsey Dubai is feasible, and with the right preparation and focus on showcasing your strengths and experiences, you stand a good chance.
