Niche consulting to MBB consulting?

Hi WSO fam! I'm currently a senior at a non-target school. I recently received a full-time offer from a very niche consulting firm (which consults in the executive compensation space). I was wondering if starting out in a niche consulting area out of school is a good decision or not. Is it possible to switch from this niche area to strategy consulting at bigger firms (like MBB in the future)?

Any advice would be appreciated!

I'd never bet on transferring to other firms as a big factor -- the possibility for that is largely determined by macro type trends that you don't have control over. Personally, I wouldn't think that there's going to be a ton of lateral hiring the next couple years given how many firms overhired and the work slowdown that's occurred at many firms

In terms of whether or not it'd be a good idea, it depends on your goals and the other opportunities you have available. It won't be relevant experience for the broad types of strategy roles that consultants usually want. As somebody who personally isn't interested in exec comp or HR type work I would not choose it if I had other decent options available
