Salary & Lifestyle of a Partner at MBB

Hi,

I was wondering if it would be possible for someone to shed some light on MBB partner/senior partner salary & what their day-to-day is like.

I've also set this to all regions to hear how it may differ (i.e. UK vs wider EU vs USA).

I have a specific interest in McKinsey-related information but happy to hear about others (Bain/BCG) & learn a bit more about their typical life within consulting.

Looking to learn about their lifestyle holistically - which could include info on their typical responsibilities, average hours weekly (or what time they tend to enter and leave the office), etc... anything else you see fit to mention is also welcomed!

I was interested to know but can't find much so far, would be super helpful to hear your thoughts.

Thank you!

From McK in EU (office with very good WLB)

My impression is that partners have slightly more flexibility, but still work the same total hours in the week (avg in the 60s), with probably some prep work on sundays.

You can manage WLB as a partner by optimizing for how local your industry/clients are to your home office.

Nah sorry I don’t have much clarity in that regard. They can easily make up to a million in TC (especially senior partners at McK) but that’s just speculation tbh. You’re better off googling for the various comp reports online.

Important to remember that equity partner at MBB is a sales job. Many partners are refreshingly open about this. You effectively have no boss and can be quite creative with how you live your life as long as you keep selling work. Obviously delivering quality casework is key to having repeat customers, but it's means to an end.

On one end of the spectrum there are partners with a trusted pyramid below them who sell pretty formulaic types of work (DDs, procurement, etc.) and can solve for some incredible WLB (~45 hrs of low-stress work). On the other end of the spectrum there are new partners selling hairy/ambiguous/complex cases and still trying to build a customer base who grind as hard as any associate.
