Post offer - Tips on how to prepare for a full time consulting role
Hi there,
I have signed with L.E.K. Consulting to start as an Associate at there Sydney office in Australia in February 2014.
Currently I am finishing the final year of my undergraduate law degree. Because I'm at university this final year I have a decent amount of free time and hence was wondering what would be good preparation to undertake before I start at LEK.
I've heard the learning curve for undergrads is quite steep, so would be eager to here anyone's advice.
Cheers
Hey. I am in almost the exact same position (starting with Bain Australia in Feb 2014) as an Associate Consultant and asked the exact same question of a few of the partners in the firm. The most common thing they told me was to just enjoy any time before starting, doing whatever I want without worrying about preparing. Beyond that, I got a few book recommendations (various business topics, mostly Bain published books though), which I'll look into later in the year. I am also thinking about purchasing Victor Cheng's "How to Succeed in Management Consulting" (caseinterview. com/hsmc), which seems like a relatively small investment in comparison to future earnings.
I'd also love to hear from somebody else more experienced though!
