Starting in Asia at MBB/T2 -> US
Im finishing up school. I am looking at FT recruiting for the aforementioned firms, but know Mandarin Chinese at a high level (spoke it growing up and have spent time in China). I have native level fluency in conversing, but am weaker at writing. Typing is fine, since it only requires you to look at characters and choose the right one based on a list.
Background is T10 US school and target, varsity athletics and greek life/ professional club membership and leadership. I have around a 3.3 GPA, hence my looking for other options. Is looking at MBB and T2 in Asia to start my career a poor choice in terms of development and transferring back to the US after analyst stint?
Depends where you go but honestly it's not much of an easier path unless you know another APAC language intimately. The Chinese-centric offices are notoriously competitive as there's no shortage of talent coming from China/HK/Singapore looking for those seats, along with Singapore's extra protectionism for its nationals. HK would probably be your best bet but even then I would imagine it'd be a tough mountain to climb. And that's assuming you get past screening with a 3.3.
