Difference between Bus Dev and Corp Dev?

Can anyone explain the difference between business development and corporate development? Is there even a difference? Do different companies use different terms? I'm applying for jobs in both of these areas, and frankly the descriptions sound the same.

Sometimes there isn't a difference, and I found that different firms use either term to say the same thing - Growing the company through possible acquisitions. While other times the term might mean a sales job, which in most cases they use the title bus dev more than corp dev.

Firms might differ in how they use these term but generraly corp dev (sometimes corp bus dev) is the internal M&A house and bus dev is internal consulting, strategy planning, etc. Bus dev might also refer to a sales position (although a sophisticated one) where you--as the name says it--build new businesses by meeting key people, represent your company on conferences, seminars, etc and also educate sales people on the technology they are actually selling, etc...something like this. Many times at companies that are not as huge, the bus dev guys also do M&A so the bus dev and corp dev roles are washed together.

They mean the same thing.

False. Business development may (some companies call strategy bizdev, but usually not) mean the same thing as corporate development, but usually business development is more of a sales role and corporate development is a strategy role.
