Final round interviews - Amazon Intern

Hi,
In 2 weeks I have final round interviews for Financial Analyst Internship 2024 at Amazon in Luxembourg. I will have 2hours straight interviews, first Behavioral and then Case study. For behavioral, I know what to do (STAR). For case study, at yesterday's prep call I found out that I will have to analyze financial data of Prime day by using excel.
Could anyone share some tips with me to how to better prepare for case interview? Which formulas/tools in Excel to look at, what could I specifically get, what to repeat regarding the technical part (accounting)?
Thanks

Hey there,

Sounds like you've got an exciting couple of weeks ahead! For the case study, you'll want to be comfortable with a variety of Excel functions. Here are a few that could come in handy:

  1. VLOOKUP and HLOOKUP: These are great for pulling specific data out of a larger dataset.
  2. Pivot Tables: These are fantastic for summarizing and analyzing large datasets. You can quickly calculate sums, averages, counts, and more.
  3. IF, AND, OR: These logical functions can help you make decisions based on certain criteria.
  4. SUMIF, COUNTIF, AVERAGEIF: These are useful for performing calculations on data that meet specific criteria.
  5. INDEX MATCH: This is a powerful combination that can be used as an alternative to VLOOKUP and HLOOKUP.

In terms of accounting, you'll want to be comfortable with the three main financial statements (Income Statement, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow Statement) and how they interact. Understanding concepts like revenue, costs, profit, assets, liabilities, equity, cash flows from operating activities, investing activities, and financing activities will be crucial.

Also, don't forget to brush up on your financial modeling skills. The DCF Modeling Training - Free Guide on the WSO could be a great resource for this.

Remember, the key to a successful case interview is to stay structured, make your thought process clear, and don't panic if you don't know something. It's okay to ask for a moment to think or to ask clarifying questions.

Good luck! You're going to do great.
