Offer Decision to Make - Sr Corp Treasury Analyst ft. Capital Market vs FP&A Manager

Hello Everyone,

I recently got to offers for my next career move. One is a Sr Treasury Analyst position at North America HQ of a Global Fortune 100 company and the other one is internal promotion (French company, F500) . I am struggling making decision as both position has pros and cons. I am going to list them down below and hope to gain your insight.

1. FP&A Manager

Pros: a. Promotion, looking good from career progression perspective and leading to more management type opportunities for my next move.

b. I'll get more exposure to whole picture of one BU operations in US.

Cons: a. zero pay increase. According to HM, it's decided by HR. The reason is that I got a 15% bump from a lateral move over a year ago. (I am not sure if this is a common practice)

b. It doesn't spark a lot of joy to me. I don't feel drawn towards it.

2. Sr. Treasury Analyst

Pros: a. New field and fit in my interest of pursuing my CFA designation. The group is focused on debt capital market by issuing debt to finance working capital. A lot of exposure to Wall Street IB groups.

b. I feel I am more drawn towards the newer field.

Cons: a. There is barely pay increase for me to make the move as the title basically defines the pay scale

b. It's a lateral move. It will take years to develop into a higher level role. It doesn't look very good from career progression perspective.

c. Exit opportunity is unclear and can be very limited. As corp treasury doesn't have very standard setting from one company to another, I am not sure if I can get equivalent opportunity somewhere else. At the same time, not sure if corporate treasury experience will lead me to banking.

I'd like to hear your voice on my situation. Hopefully it will be something can help other people in the similar situation.

Really depends on what you want to do long term. For what it's worth, at a past company some people in corporate treasury found it challenging to exit internally into BU finance roles since the experience wasn't as transferrable compared to roles 'in the business'. But it sounds like your ultimate goal is more along the lines of IB, capital markets, etc, so my previous comment may not apply and I have no direct experience with treasury, but just thought I'd give another data point to help with your decision- congrats on the 2 opps!
