Strategic Finance Exit Opportunities?

Hey All,

Does anyone have any insight into possible exits from strategic finance? I currently work for a F200 doing strategic finance (long range P&L forecasting, M&A, capital markets, and IR assistance/modeling). Would corporate strategy, corporate development, or management consulting be possible exits for these types of jobs?

TYIA.

Saw the comment was deleted - can you share any insights you've gotten on strategic finance exits over the past year? Working in a similar role now as you described.

Yeah the comment above stated that a strategic finance individual could exit fairly easily into a corporate role (Corp Dev/Strat and Investor Relations) if you sell your experience correctly. In terms of Management Consulting or any advisory services, it's possible but would require a lot of networking and targeting smaller companies (depending on your background, of course. I entered into the role right after undergrad).

From my experiences over the past year, I think the above comment is pretty accurate. I think exits to other corporate roles are totally doable if you really study up on the specific corporate function's responsibilities and make direct ties to what you're doing in strategic finance. Since we wear many hats, this isn't very difficult at all. The most important part of a strong exit is probably highlighting that strategic finance isn't just a fancier way of describing plain vanilla FP&A.
