Private Credit to Corp Dev/Strategy/Startups?

Wanted to ask if going from private credit to corp dev/strategy/startups is possible. I'll be recruiting in the upcoming cycle and plan on shooting for a few PC shops, I find the asset class and its focus on downside protection to be alot more interesting than the PE side and from some networking calls it seems sourcing makes up a huge chunk of a PE associate's work. However while I find credit interesting, long term I also feel that I'd want to start my own business/join a startup or at least work towards a C-suite position somewhere. Was wondering does going into private credit limit the possibility of doing so? Thanks in advance.

How are you preparing for PC recruitment? Also could you shed some light on what the PC oncycle is like? Did you reach out to HHs or did they reach out to you? And are the positions you are going to be recruiting for immediate start or is it a delayed start? Thanks!

I'm still a college student lol. But from my networking so far it seems that questions are mostly LBO questions from the 400Q guide and some accounting + behaviorals. Probably will different for you though since it seems like you have experience already

Based on the most helpful WSO content, it's not uncommon for individuals to transition from private credit to corporate development, strategy roles, or even startups. However, it's important to note that the skills and experiences you gain in private credit may differ from those in private equity or investment banking, which are often seen as more traditional paths to such roles.

In private credit, you'll focus on downside protection and risk assessment, which can certainly be valuable in a corporate strategy or development role. However, you might not get as much exposure to the operational and strategic aspects of a business that you would in a PE role, which could be more directly applicable to a C-suite position or running your own business.

That being said, your career path is not set in stone and many have made similar transitions. It might require some additional steps, like gaining operational experience elsewhere or pursuing an MBA, but it's certainly not out of the question.

Remember, it's all about leveraging your experiences, continuing to learn and grow, and networking effectively. So, if you're truly interested in private credit, don't let the fear of limiting your future opportunities stop you from pursuing it.
