Seeking Advice: Breaking into ER as an undergrad
I'm reaching out for advice and guidance as I navigate my path towards a career in ER. I'm currently based in the UK and hold a BSc in Finance from a semi-target school, but I've encountered a few hurdles, and I'm seeking input on my next steps.
During this year, I've applied for ER openings, but due to limited opportunities this year, I haven't secured any interviews. Additionally, I've explored auditing positions, but I've had no luck on that front either.
In an effort to enhance my career prospects, I'm considering pursuing a Master's degree, specifically the MSc A&F at LSE. However, I'm unsure if this move would strategically position me to break into ER.
I'm keen on gathering insights on the following points:
- Graduation Circumstances: I graduated in November 2022 due to a resit, with the graduation ceremony taking place in January. I'm wondering if this might affect my chances, given the resit and the delayed graduation?
- Master's Degree: Is pursuing a Master's degree, particularly in Accounting and Finance, a viable step to improve my chances of securing an SA role and advancing towards ER?
- Relevance of MSc Finance: Would the MSc Finance program be beneficial for my pursuit of ER?
- Alternative Approaches: Considering my background and experiences, are there any other paths or strategies I should consider to increase my employability for roles in the financial industry?
-
Stock Pitching Competitions: Can participating in stock pitching competitions be an effective way to enhance my skills and showcase my potential to prospective employers in the ER field?
Thank you all in advance for your valuable insights and guidance.
Masters = unlikely to help, CFA better. Graduation date shouldn’t matter that much. PA> competitions
Thank you for the insight!
Regarding my master's degree, I have been considering two beneficial aspects:
Final grade?

What are you moving from?
I've been looking for jobs since graduation but go no luck yet.
I’m not entirely sure how the UK market is. I’m not gonna lie.
