Tampa Bay Area ER
I am interested in ER in the Tampa/St. Petersburg area of Florida. I understand that rankings are inappropriate at the firm level for ER. Can anyone provide any insight on the analysts and industry coverage strength of Raymond James and Manning & Napier?
For reference, I am at a complete non-target in the southeast US. I am in a MFin program and have completed Level I of the CFA.
Thanks in advance to anyone that can help out.
I cant rank prestige for ya but check the //www.wallstreetoasis.com/wso-company-database and search the area to see if other ER firms are around too or for employee reviews.
Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately, the WSO Company Database doesn\'t have any user provided content for these two firms yet.

Well the first thing you need to figure out is if you want sell-side or buy-side. That'll determine where you ought to spend your time looking.
M&N is a very strong shop-historically a value shop but they are putting the pieces in place to build a more growth oriented team. Their St. Pete office is a few sales guys and about 10-12 analysts. The company is headquartered outside of Rochester, NY.
How old are you and what is your background? Do you have CFA?
I'll be honest - extremely slim chance you get a look from them no matter your resume.
If you are young and new to industry - they wouldn't hire you in the St. Pete office because you'd need to start at the bottom and work your way up (St. Pete is primarily analysts only - no associates or assistants).
And if you are older - they wont hire you regardless because they groom their associates to become analysts.
That might be tough to hear - but I can assure you its pretty much accurate.
jb7049 thanks for the info.

Have heard great things from employees in this area
Raymond James is a pretty solid employer in this area, however very competitive. They have both buy side (Eagle Asset Management) and sell side positions (not sure if any are open though). I do not know your grades and other experience but I know they are fairly tough to get in with. For straight research there is Ned Davis. Unfortunately Tampa kind of sucks for finance if you aren't into corporate finance. I definitely know how you feel, assuming USF? Graduate in 3 weeks and not having much luck.
Oh and for M&N, basically what was already said.
