Dress shoe recommendations (I’m Canadian)

I’m looking to purchase a new pair of dress shoes for sub 300 including tax. I do not change out of my dress shoes, so I would like something comfortable with good ankle support. Additionally, I’d like the pair to last 2 years of daily wear. I understand at that price point it may be difficult but I’d appreciate any suggestions!

Assuming this is in the US/New York, I'd recommend Carmina. Fantastic quality and will last you a long time if you take care of them. Please don't get Allen Edmonds, the awkward white guy's dream shoe. It doesn't have to be namebrand European but at least get European.

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here are some recommendations for dress shoes that fit your criteria of comfort, durability, and budget under $300:

  1. Johnston & Murphy: This brand offers a variety of dress shoes that are well-regarded for their comfort and durability. They are often priced within your budget, especially if you look for sales or discounts. Their shoes typically feature good support and are designed to handle regular wear.

  2. Cole Haan: Known for integrating modern technology into classic shoe designs, Cole Haan offers comfortable shoes with good support. Their dress shoes often come with padded insoles and additional cushioning, which can be beneficial if you're wearing them throughout the day.

  3. Entry-level Allen Edmonds: While Allen Edmonds shoes are generally priced higher, their entry-level options or factory-second sales might fit into your budget. These shoes are renowned for their build quality and comfort, and with proper care, they can last well beyond two years.

  4. Jack Erwin: A relatively new brand that has received positive reviews for both style and comfort. Their shoes are priced competitively, and they offer designs that provide good support and durability.

When purchasing, consider looking for features like full-grain leather, robust sole construction, and adequate arch support to ensure the shoes meet your needs for daily wear and comfort. Additionally, investing in proper shoe care products like cedar shoe trees and leather conditioner can significantly extend the life of your dress shoes.
