Teeth Whitening
Hey everyone - sorry in advance for the pretty laughable topic lol.
I'm getting ready to start as An1 this summer. I've been using all the right toothbrushes, toothpastes, mouthwash, flossing and brushing 3-4 times daily and have seen some improvement but my teeth are still a bit yellow in comparison to peers. Not quite sure if they're getting their teeth whitened or whatnot, but wondering how common teeth whitening treatment is in the industry? If you've had one yourself, would you recommend getting it professionally done (and how often) or using one of the DIY products (feel free to drop any recs). Thanks so much!

Clearly, this is something that is affecting your confidence. Get it done professionally so you don't have to worry about adding new, extraneous habits.
Apparently anyone other than a dentist or a dental hygienist cannot legally recommend a cleaning technique/apparatus/whatever even though if it's the user solely using it on their own. Read on my fiancée's document left on my desk yesterday.
So direct advice from a dental professional: "Always drink acidic drinks with a straw (coffee/soda/juice) to prevent further staining. And go see your dental hygienist (at any dental clinic) for a regular cleaning and chemical whitening if required further."
If you have a dental plan, usually 2-3 cleanings a year are covered under your insurance (It's a unit thing but 2 cleanings is usually covered). Even otherwise, I think it just costs like a few hundred bucks (as long as there is no external exam or fillings required). And after the first treatment, if you take preventive measures it won't stain much.
Get it done professionally, don't do stupid shit at home. And if you get a dental plan after working, just use the regular cleanings (without the chemical whitening). It is recommended by all dentists.
Lastly, 4 times brushing is pushing it. There is such a thing as over-brushing, it harms your enamel and erodes your teeth, 2-3 is recommended. Use mouthwash if you don't feel fresh, and brush your teeth, gums, and tongue softly but thoroughly.
Unless OP talks out of his ass, I hope that is not a requirement.

I have done almost every teeth whitening option out there (toothpaste, white strips, professional whitening), and without a doubt professional whitening at a dentist's office is the best. It's expensive ($300-450) but so worth it.

how frequently do you have to get it re-whitened, or in other words, how long does the whitening "last"
I would say it noticeably "lasts" around 2 years, but my dentist told me getting it professionally done every 2 years is too much
What kind of procedure do you get at the dentist for it? I had some kind of laser treatment before my wedding and it hurt like a motherfucker. It was effective but I never want to do that again.
That stuff leaves it sensitive for awhile. However, there’s no real way to really whiten it unless you get it done professionally.
