Queefing Quants

Quants are a very niche market for a site like WSO. Of 200 markets analysts/associates coming into a large bank every year, perhaps 10-15 of them are quants.

Both of your numbers are too low. Related, quants aren't niche anymore. While people don't like to label themselves quants, there are many businesses and support groups in large banks that are quant-y.

Problem is a ton of people post on the forum thinking they want to be quants when really theyre just looking for a role that takes more math than the others but not necessarily a 'quant' i.e. derivatives trading.

Exactly this.

I think a quant forum would be a good idea, considering that it is an emerging field and the financial firms are moving towards them. Cautiously yes, but they are. Also, I guess it will help the existing subscribers of the community because who know, they might consider picking up a course (online or offline)

You can try out Quantra, that has it's very own community page. There is also QuantInsti - although their blogs are amazing, they often reply to all their queries and comments on their blogs.
