Best way for international to break into American hedge fund industry

I’m currently a sophomore double majoring in math and finance in New Zealand. Im taking courses in finance, statistics, probability, economics, and mathematics.

What is the best course of action after I graduate to get into hedge industry in America? Would it be to work for a few years in APAC region in the asset management/hedge fund industry or do a MFE at top 10 University.

Obviously the latter makes it easier but a hell of a lot more expensive, and has the opportunity cost of not working for 18 months. However, trying to get a visa to work in the states is extremely difficult and pursuing graduate level eduction over there makes it a lot easier.
