Getting up to speed on TMT / Consumer

About to start interviewing at a small TMT/Consumer L/S fund from a non-TMT/Consumer role. Any recommendations for how to get up to speed on the overall landscape? Books / primers / podcasts / etc would all be appreciated.

That's such a remarkable broad space I would do two things:

  • 13Fs of similar firms, write down ~20 common names you see (e.g., Confluent), read their business summary section in the 10k, and write down a summary in your own words of what they do plus look up their multiples and basic rev / ebitda values. Should take <10 minutes each for a 3-4 hour exercise.
  • Pick ~3 companies to go deep on. Not necessarily a full pitch, but enough to talk about a few different spaces, for example, application software, an e-commerce niche, and one other. Take ~2h each.

This should take one weekend day and probably get you up to speed pretty quickly.
