Is speaking very quickly during a HireVue, or missing only a few words at the end bad?
Is speaking very quickly during a HireVue, or missing only a few words at the end bad? I had a nearly flawless HireVue interview. However, there were a couple of instances where I spoke too fast. Another time, once where the recording ended before I finished my thought. While I believe the meaning remained clear for all of these times (I guess HireVue answers), it did feel a bit awkward.
I've reviewed hirevue recordings for candidates before, and generally we'll take a holistic view. Is there structure to the candidates response or are they rambling? Have they tackled the question head on or are they dancing around it because they don't have a great answer? Are they speaking clearly and with confidence? Are they conveying the right team player values we are looking for? I wouldn't think you'd be dinged for missing some words at the end if the rest of your response was coherent and well presented. But of the rest of your answer was rambling trash, AND you didn't end on time then yeah that's a ding.
+1 to this. Speaking really quickly doesn't really imply confidence and makes you seem nervous, so I would cut down your answers if you're having to speak really fast. The video cutting off is not really an issue if its once, more of a downside of HireVues in general having a fixed time limit, but you should be aware of the timer and make sure you're not just rambling on.
HireVues ARE awkward so it's normal to be a little nervous
