MM Banks and Undergraduate Major
Common advice for non-target or less qualified applicants is to seek out middle-market or boutique banks. I've heard elsewhere that these banks are more inclined to only hire students with finance/accounting backgrounds. Is this fact or fiction? Is it because of the difference in training? Finally, what would you suggest for a non-business major in such a situation? Thanks in advance.
Generally, a MM bank will be leaner staffed and have less resources than a BB. The price of entry and investment in training is less for someone with a finance/accounting undergrad background vs. someone with a non-traditional background.
In the case of non-business majors pursuing IB opportunities at a MM, I believe the same profile requirements would be in place, i.e. to have had at least a relevant internship, however, I think a MM that has an industry niche focus such as TNT would be more open to considering someone with say an engineering background.
Also, folks assume a MM might be more easy going on other things such as GPA, but this is not always the case.
Good perspective. Thanks.
do you even have a chance at the middle market if you're not an accounting or finance major?
