Transitioning to MM Boutique from Management Consulting?
Hey all, first post here.
Little bit of background:
Currently 27 years old, and I am a first year analyst at a management consulting firm in Korea. Our firm, although not MBB, has great presence over private equity industry in Korea primarily known for DD & PMI strategy house. I have worked with global MF PEs being here, and I recently started growing interest over participating M&A deals in sell-side industry. Thanks to the OJT at our firm, I am capable of running 3 statement, DCF and LBO modelling, although we never really use them during projects.
I also have approx 3.5 years experience in total in Army Infantry, FX Swap/Rates Sales, and in Corp Dev role at a startup. (I know these exp have nothing to do with IB)
I am primarily curious about two things - 1) With no IB internship or prior experience in finance, how difficult would breaking into MM boutique IB as a foreigner? 2) Are there any cases where I can start as an Intern and convert to full-time analyst? (Tax in Korea sucks so bad that after-tax, BB salary in Korea should be almost similar to Intern salary in SG..)
I am definitely not picky over which IB I will end up at. I know that I missed my window for BB long time ago. I'd be very happy if I land any analyst position at a boutique IB.
Thanks for reading over a long post!
