Turning Informational Interviews Into Something More
Hi all,
New prospective monkey here. Currently a junior/senior equivalent in Australia at a top target studying Bachelor of Commerce (Finance & Economics). Grades are ok (77 WAM, not sure what that is in GPA), with weak-ish work experience (no internship experience, currently doing operations work casually at one of the big 4 banks/superannuation funds here) and extracurriculars (committee position in campus Toastmasters organisation, etc.).
Did not manage to snag any SA positions this summer unfortunately. Trying to hit up boutiques/network to source any other opportunities which has led to me recently hitting up alumni through the university's alumni connection page and having a string of informational interviews. They've mostly gone well, but I'm having trouble converting them into something more. To put this into an analogy: I feel like I'm having a bunch of one-night stands but I want a loving long-term relationship. So the question is: how do you guys convert your informational interviews into a more involved relationship (i.e. proper, ongoing mentoring relationship with the possibility for referrals, mock interviews, etc.)? I understand that these professionals are busy, so is this kind of relationship even possible?
Thanks guys and great to be a part of this community!
