Using IB Internship as a stepping stone?
I have an upcoming internship in London at a mid-tier BB in their IB team. I have absolutely no desire to work in IB full time, but accepted the internship for the learning experience.
Is this common and how helpful is such an internship for FT recruiting?
Looking to work somewhere early-stage (either a startup or startup investing) or consulting upon graduation.
Yes this is smart but why the fuck not do ib. 2 years for generational wealth. Your kids would love you. Daughter driving a Bentley at 16 lifestyle.
Because I don’t have the chops to be a career banker, and there are things I’d rather do from undergraduate that benefit from banking experience (i.e. startup, VC/GE, consulting).
Will have to do with a leased Bentley lol
Yes, some have used it as a stepping stone for MBB.
1) Is it used as a ‘filter’ i.e. competitive internship => competitive candidates, or are the skills from IB actually useful?
2) How does this translate across banks and divisions (and further, groups). I.e. is GS IB TMT >>> Barclays ER Industrials or is it rather insignificant?
Brand name of bank matters more for consulting rather than the specific group.
