From REPE to HF?

Hi all,

Perhaps a weird one, but I've found myself in the following situation:

  • Current role is a Director level at a (continental) European real assets PE shop, covering both real estate and infrastructure;

  • Never did IB and came into investing via the backdoor

  • Slowly growing dissatisfied with pace of private markets/institutional funds, and continental Europe as a place to work in finance and live

I am strongly considering switching over to the public side and also switching the location to the UK, the US or somewhere else.

Now, I understand my background is not the easiest sell. We of course look at public markets from the P2P angle, but it is different to classic HF investing.

Do you guys see it as a feasible career option or am I stupid and I should just continue grinding in PE?

Another curveball is that I am actually fairly strong in quant disciplines (or at least used to, probably getting rusty by now), so quant/quantamental analysis actually sounds super attractive to me; but again, not sure whether I would even get any looks given what I do today professionally is so different.

Thanks all!

I think the natural fit would of course be the RE and Utilities industries as these are the ones I have knowledge of; I believe the more quant the job is, the less important the industry becomes (or am I wrong?)
In any event, I did my fair share of learning new things at work during my career so far so would remain flexible here as well.
