What is it with these terrible hiring practices?

C canadian bank - I was asked to submit a 3 day long case with 3 different deliverables. And they did not even follow up with a case presentation. Just hired someone off the bat. Wrote me a “thank you” mail. Wtf?

Ah, the wild jungle of job hunting, where sometimes the bananas you're asked to collect don't even seem to end up in the right fruit basket. It sounds like you've encountered one of those bewildering moments in the hiring process that leaves you scratching your head. While the specific scenario you're describing isn't detailed in the WSO content, it's not uncommon to hear about rigorous and sometimes seemingly excessive hiring practices, especially in competitive fields like banking.

In the context of Canadian banking, as per the discussions on Wall Street Oasis, the recruitment process can indeed be intense, with a strong focus on identifying top talent from specific schools and programs. However, the situation you're describing, where a significant effort on a case study doesn't lead to a presentation or further engagement, isn't directly covered. It does, however, reflect the competitive and sometimes unpredictable nature of recruitment in high finance.

The lack of follow-up, especially after submitting a comprehensive case study, can be frustrating and disheartening. It's a reminder of the importance of clear communication and feedback in the recruitment process, something that not all organizations manage effectively. This experience, while disappointing, can also be a valuable insight into the company's culture and how they value potential employees' time and effort.

In the grand scheme of things, every experience, good or bad, is a learning opportunity. It might be worth reflecting on any feedback you received or insights you gained during the process to prepare for future opportunities. And remember, in the vast jungle of opportunities, finding the right tree to climb sometimes takes a few attempts. Keep swinging, and don't let this experience dampen your spirits!

Was interviewing for VP position at a MF... did 14 individual interviews in total with 24 hour case study relatively early on in the process. Decided they wanted someone more junior after my final round superday.
