One that springs to mind which is up there, if not ahead of, the likes of the allies winning WW2 and Barcelona 6-1 PSG is me securing an FT offer after getting shafted out of a SA return.

I feel the need to comment on the WW2 thing though, once the Americans entered the war (which I believe was inevitable) the tide would be shifted regardless. Just sum up the GDP of the Allies vs the Axis at any point, not to even look at energy.
We turned the tide in the Pacific, but the tide in the European theater was turned when the Soviets entered. The Japanese attacking us was one of the greatest strategic blunders in the history of warfare and it's not as though that's just clear with the benefit of hindsight. Large contingents of Japanese generals / admirals had studied in the states, seen the economic juggernaut first-hand, and tried to dissuade Yamamoto / more senior leadership from engaging us. Thoroughly insane for them to have done that and expected any other outcome than an inevitable land invasion of Japan which they would lose (although they would have fought for every single inch of the island, so thank God Truman made the right call in dropping the bombs).
IBM almost went under in the 90s and Lou Gerstner came on and fixed it. There is a book about it called “Who Says Elephants Can’t Dance?” Gerstner went on to be CEO of Carlyle Group after that.

Definitely. One of my favorite parts they describe is that Lou came on and for a while didn’t do or touch anything. He listened to the people and observed the status quo for a while before cutting divisions and changing things.

Business wise, probably Steve Jobs coming back to Apple. He essentially got kicked out of the company he started, when on to start a company called neXt, which then was bought out by Apple so Jobs could return as CEO. Apple needed his vision to run their ship and Jobs also matured over a couple of years.
In sports, prob Jordan from a physical, mental, legend standpoint. Won three championships in a row, quit, came out of retirement and won three more in a row. (Maybe Tiger winning the 2019 Masters as a 2nd, or Ben Hogan in golf 1953 after getting hitting by a car. Not an all time great, but Brian Robinson on the Commanders getting shot last year and coming back springs to mind.)
