London: moving from The City to Victoria

For all the Londoners,

was just curious to know how it feels working in Victoria compared to the City.
I will be joining a large commodities trading house that has the HQ there, moving from a bank in The City

So what in particular would you like to know? I think so much of it comes down to personal preference. COVID has also reshaped the landscape, so there are still lots of questions about how things will look in the near future when offices start opening up again.

Victoria and Pimlico and to a lesser extent South Kensington are all relatively quiet right now. There are almost no crowds at Buckingham Palace, limited people in St. James park (compared to throngs in Regents Park, Hyde Park, and Kensington Garden), and everything except the main streets in Victoria are empty. It should start to pick up this weekend but it will never compare to the city in terms of density of people.

Revisiting the personal preference thing, if you want to be in the heart of everything, Victoria would not be your first choice. It also doesn’t have the breadth of options that you’ll find in the city, whether that be entertainment, restaurants, or pubs. However, Victoria has great access (Victoria Line, District Line, Circle Line) and getting to Gatwick from Victoria Station couldn’t be easier, although it doesn’t sound like you’ll be doing a lot of professional travel.

Hope this is helpful. Happy to answer specific questions if I can.
