Insight vs. Warburg Pincus Analyst
Hi all, I'm a SA in banking and in processes for Insight's On-Site DGS Analyst program and Warburg's PE analyst program. Curious to hear thoughts on both programs and how they compare. It seems like both will be focused on customer calls and cutting SaaS data, with internal promotion rates high. Long-term, I'm interested in TMT crossover or L/S investing. Also, it seems like the pros/cons of each are:
Insight On-Site DGS:
-
Pros: Great WLB, culture, comp. Ability to work on a wide range of deals as Insight has a very wide mandate and does anything from seed to LBO, both sexy consumer and unsexy/efficient SaaS co's. No sourcing. More chances to get involved with portco's operationally with growth strategy/fundraising.
-
Cons: Traditional prestige among PE analyst programs?? Newer program, might limit options for buyout focused PE shops. Not a clear transition to the investing team at Insight/other later-stage PE shops
Warburg:
Pros: Comp. Clear promotion to VP. Very established and one of the most prestigious PE analyst programs.
Cons: Bad WLB/hours. Big part of role is sourcing. Much narrower mandate (mostly boring SaaS companies in antiquated markets) and fewer deals.
Have you already received interview invites for both?
Lol wp hasn’t even started recruiting how are you in processes for both
WP has started, at least the initial reach out and resume submission, at some schools a few weeks ago. I'm unsure where they're at now although I imagine first round interviews may have been scheduled and some completed.
Other thread has a source saying diversity interviews out last week and rest of interviews to be released this week.
So someone’s got conflict information / is wrong lol
I don't think On-Site DGS is really an investing role in the traditional sense - IIRC it was like their version of Vista Consulting Group or other operating arms.
Based on your descriptions, your interests clearly seem to lie in software/tech, so why are you not in the Vista and Silver Lake analyst processes?
Personally WBP is better IMO
If not in tech, agreed.
Within tech, Vista/SLP are certainly far more recognizable and likely have a better suited analyst program for those interested in tech investing
DGS is not a top role. Don't even bother interviewing there
On-site is NOT a investing seat and cannot compare to WP
Agreed.
With full confidence the ONLY (large cap) Private Equity Analyst programs that are INVESTING roles are BX, KKR, Silver Lake, Warburg Pincus, Vista Equity, Bain Capital, and maybe Ares.
Insight is not a true investing role, even on the DGS team.
What about General Atlantic and Insight?
Wasnt aware General Atlantic had an analyst program, if they do, I’m assuming it would be at least a decent GE analyst program just given the firm’s reputation
As far as insight, bruh read
You’re mistaken, Insight has two different analyst roles - one is Investment Analyst and the other is the On-site Diligence position
You are correct in that Insight have an investment analyst position, but don’t let the name fool you.
It’s mainly sourcing, which is the complete opposite of what say Vista and SLP analysts do - they do solely execution based work, and sourcing only for VPs and up essentially
“If you think that calling entrepreneurs on the phone to sell them on Insight is glorified telemarketing, then Insight probably is not the right place for you.“ - found in Insight Investment Analyst description.
How is comp at Warburg? Conflicting information in previous thread - some say it's below street, others say top of street a notch below Apollo. Thoughts anybody?
Analyst pay is in line with EBs. Associate pay was recently top of street but is somewhere in the middle now after recent bumps for this year
