Risk it all for a PE Analyst Poisiton ?
Hi WSO,
Active member that never really posted here. I need your help because I'm next to a tricky situation.
I'm studiying in a masters degree at a French BS. Did a Summer Internship in a small cap M&A Boutique.
Managed to work my a$$ off to find a 6 Months internship at a LMM PE Firm (great track-record, historic GP).
I have 2 Internships left and definitely want to work FT in PE. Would you advise me to do both of the 2 Internships in PE with the hopes of converting ?
Thanks in advance !

If you think about converting in Paris, there are very very very very few spot in as an analyst for men (can only think on 1 guy who converted end-of-study internship). Unfortunately, nearly all analyst spots are reserved for women.
If I was you, I would do the next one in IB and the last one in PE, as everyone does, because if you do only PE and don't find an analyst spot (which is very rare for a man, even though you have the perfect CV), you'll be able to find a FT in IB thanks to your internship.
I find it so sad, it creates an opposite discrimination.... Don't you think there are possible opportunities in small cap funds ?
I don't know much about small-cap funds, recruitment is way less structured and standardised. I would say that it's not impossible but very hard.
Yes it is disgusting and discrimination. But these are the times we live in
All the spots reserved for women? What kind of dystopian French bullshit is this?
It's unofficial but usual to add diversity to the teams
.
Any other feedbacks/opinion from my European Monkeys ?
Hey, so i was stupid enough to only do PE internships. These were pretty good (European MF/UMM), but I had no chance to convert them to FT roles. Currently, im sitting with a mediocre IB FT offer - so my advice to you is the following: do whatever you can to secure a FT role in IB, once you have 1 PE internship thats enough, focus your attention on IB instead —> better to start your career in IB and then exit to PE due to the extremely limited number of PE analyst positions in Europe
Thanks for the feedback ! You think it would have been possible to convert in a small cap fund ?
Now that you’re in IB how much time you think would be needed to switch back to PE ? You had offers ?
