Banker to Family Business (Asia region)

Hi everyone,

I am new to WSO community. I appreciate reading and learning about different monkeys sharing their experiences or taking questions. Thank you all!!!

I studied in the US (public Ivy) and came back to my home country (central Asia) and started working for the top local bank doing IB. After close to 3 years, I looked for jobs in NYC and thoroughly got rejected left and right. Also, I think I was aiming above my weight. After a month in NYC, I returned home and started working for our family business which is a medium sized hospitality business with about 150 employees. Although it is not my passion, I was out of job and family needed my help. My brother is being prepared to take over the business and everyone knows I do not want to stay with the family business. I am trying to get into IB in NY/London/HK. And I think MBA may help me to break into it.

So my question is how do you put family business experience onto your resume? What are the main dos and donts guys? Should I put more emphasis on my last local IB job or more on my current job?

Since it is family business, we all wear many hats all at the same time. My main responsibilities include financial planning and budgeting, financial and marketing strategy development and execution and bank/investor relations.

Hoping to hear your opinion.

Sincerely,
L
