GPA Background Check for BB
Okay, so I am looking to break into IB, and I think my GPA is the main thing holding me back. I am pretty sure the cutoff is usually 80% or 3.7 for most banks, and I currently have 1% less than that. I am 100% sure after this semester, my CGPA will be 80%, so if they ask for it next year before starting, I can back it up. Is it fine if I put that as my GPA? I don't want to ruin my shot with them in the future, but I also don't know how it works. Does workday calculate the grades based on the transcript uploaded?
they won't ask for your transcript so do what you gotta do to get your foot in the door
They ask for it in Canada.
They even ask for laterals to give transcripts lol
Note: They ask for it in the application along with Resume and Cover Letter in one file, idk if that means anything. (They can't see the average unless they calculate it)
Don’t lie about GPA you most definitely will get caught. I’m not lying, someone in my group was fired this year for lying about GPA after already being hired and working for a while. Random background check canned him…
One additional note, I am currently at a “top bank” and have a 3.5 GPA from a semi-target non-diversity and recently signed to a MF
One guy in my group came from no-name school and non-diversity with a ~2.5 GPA and just signed to KKR/BX/Warburg (no his parents aren’t partners at the firm, they are school teachers) This guy is easily one of the smartest guys in our group and is a great blend of intelligence and personality.
Anyone that hires based on a GPA is not someone worth working for. Especially when countless studies show legitimate evidence of significant grade inflation. In my opinion it gets less and less impressive when you see 3.9+ after 3.9+ GPA, you start to see what schools hand them out and which ones don’t. I’ve found people with slightly lower (not terrible) GPAs oftentimes have really impressive experiences or other advantageous qualities

Canadian IB recruitment is the biggest sham.
I have a low gpa from Canada too and tbh I got more looks in the US than Canada lol. Also CGPA of 80% doesn't translate to 3.7, you have to translate each course to a 4.0, not the total.
Curious, did you have to network with these US firms or were you cold applying?
Networking, haven't landed anything in the US or IB yet, but managed to get some interviews coming from non-IB background. I can't even get a reply in Canada excluding alumni and Canada is the only place where I've been told my gpa is too low for IB lol. If you're applying in the US, you have to network because many times HR will just throw your resume for needing sponsorship unless you come from one of the Canadian targets like Ivey.
In the US, if you can network and they like you, you are in. Cold applying will not do anything because the system will flag you for shit like you are from a Canadian university or need sponsorship and just filter you out. Your resume won’t meet a person.
I have had referrals/interviews at the top US banks from senior bankers whom I just talked to through a cold email. But it comes to HR to not sponsor cause I’m not Canadian, so no TN. Mostly it’s an issue after they learn the referring banker knows me through an email and I am not related.
I have had just one interview in Canada that too because of a referral from a US MD, reached SD but obviously someone who the local MD knew got it.
Never gotten an email response from anyone at the Big5 or a call for an interview. I’m a MFin from McGill and that makes it worse here.
