Engineering vs Business degree?
Hey guys,
I was wondering what UG degree would give me better career options. Keep in mind I want a lucrative, interesting job (would hate to be bored!). Exit opps is also a high priority.
Option 1: Mechanical Engineering degree at EPFL
This would allow me to be into Consulting (very good ties with MBB), banking to a certain extent if I try to get internships etc, and also any science oriented things. But would this allow me to go into tech for example (although ig it's not CS). It would also allow me to do a Masters in Finance afterwards (LSE, Oxford etc).
Option 2: Prépa followed by business degree at HEC/ESSEC/ESCP
This would allow me to easily go for finance/consulting, but I would definitely lose the science/quantitative side of engineering.
What do you guys think about CS vs Mech Eng for career options? I have the opportunity to choose either at EPFL, so am waiting to hear your thoughts!

I would go to EPFL. Prepa is a lottery and EPFL is an excellent school. Trust you will enjoy Switzerland ;)
Thanks for your advice! Have heard from many people that prépa lottery is just not worth it.
Any insights on Computer Science vs Mech Eng?
I think for IB it's about the same, maybe small advantage for MEng?
Yes MEch could have a small adavantage for IB but depends on what you like and want to study
Why do you want the science/quant aspect ?
Well Engineering degrees are very quantitative - someone hiring an engineer knows they are good with numbers.
As for the Business degree, in France anyways, people don't have to study tons of maths or science.
If you’re only focus is getting a high paying job, I would go for Business, as you don’t need any quant skills to go in IB nor MBB, and you will more easily get top3. (and you are wrong about not doing math in prepa commerce, if you do so you will be spending +30% of you time doing maths, even in math appliqué)
