MSc in Scandinavia

Hi everyone. On June 2021 I'm going to finish my Bachelor and I'm seriously thinking to move to Scandinavia to attend my MSc in Finance (Econ/Accounting and Control/QFin are valid alternatives too).

I'm looking at Lund University, SSE, Stockholm University, Uppsala University and others in Norway/Denmark/Finland.

So, Scandinavian friends (or who attended/know universities in Scandinavia), what do you think about the universities I mentioned and the ones you know are good? At first (2-3 years) I would like to work in Scandinavia/Germany or wherever it happens and then return to Italy. Every insight/advice accepted.

If you know any Scandivian language, then go for it. If you are really into Finance go SSE, the rest are very average universities. It depends really what your goals are but you will have a hard time landing anything big if you go to Stockholm/Uppsala/Lund.

Thank you.

Do you know any other Scandinavian university that places well? And regarding the placement of Nordic universities in general, do you where graduates often get a well paid job? I really know a little about Scandinavian market

The number one barrier for international students is that they don't speak Swedish, will be more difficult to land part-time jobs in banking and FT. FT salaries are substantionally less than in London, and bonus barely exist in the first years. The regional office of Bulge Brackets in Stockholm have very small teams - think MS office in Stockholm have around 25 - 30 people tops.

Nordics countries are great since they have no tution and so forth, but in terms of career would not study there if you want to get into finance. SSE is the best university by far, there is a big gap between the rest. If you want to access the European market I would personally think Copenhagen Business School is the best.

Stockholm University might be targeted highly in international rankings for its academia but its a non target for banking. Someone from SSE would be targeted before you, would aim for SSE if I were you. As an analyst in Stockholm you don't even make that much to be honest, its well paid compared to other jobs but the salaries are lower than London and bonuses are limited.

Feel free to ask more question if you have.

Thank you, in fact I'm looking to Dutch universities too. Do you if VU/University of Amsterdam or other Dutch universities are comparable to RSM in terms of placement, reputation etc.?

I'm not focusing on Bocconi because I would like to change country for my MSc.

I understand you want to switch countries, but Bocconi is a top Euro school. You may want to at least apply.

No other dutch school really comes to mind.

I also suggest HEC and IESE if you want to leave Italy as well as the UK schools (Oxbridge, LSE, LBS, UCL, Imperial).

Sure, leaving your homeland to study aboard is great, but you also want to be at a school that opens up the world to you.
