Rejected from Investment Banking workshop at Indiana University; am I screwed?

Hello, I am a current sophomore at IU and yesterday I received a rejection letter regarding my application to the Investment Banking Workshop. I heard that members who aren't a part of the workshop are treated like applicants from non-target schools. I wanted to gauge how hard it would be to get an internship without the workshop. I'm willing to work however hard it takes, but I want to ensure that my efforts will be fruitful. Please give me advice.

If you are a Freshman and are set on IB with a good GPA I’d start sending out transfer applications. It won’t be impossible without IB Workshop but IB firms already have a limited intake at IU and you will be competing with a program with a good alumni network and reputation amongst banks.

“If you are a freshman”

Now read the first sentence verryyyyy closely again.

Don’t worry about it too much, you can place well without the IBW. Just be quiet with where you’re recruiting and stay aggressive with your cold emailing. There are a couple upperclassmen who placed well without the program - you should probably reach out to them.

There have been multiple IB and Buyside placements outside of the IBW.

It goes without saying but it's more difficult without the program but definitely not impossible. The current leadership is fantastic and more than happy to help anyone who's willing to put the work in.

Current senior at Indiana University.

Did you apply to the PEW / IB Seminar / CMBW? If you're in one of those programs, I'd say you're completely fine. The PEW is completely new this year, but the latter two have kids at the top end who consistently get offers that are on par (or better) than some of the IBW kids.

Outside of those, things are pretty tough. Your chances aren't at 0%, but you're going to have to put everything into recruiting and keep doors open outside of banking in case things don't work out. Best of luck!
