School tier list for Investment banking 2023

This list does not include LACs

(1) Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Stanford, MIT, Wharton

(2) Columbia, Penn, Dartmouth, Duke, UChicago

(3) Cornell, Brown, Georgetown, NYU, Michigan, Notre Dame

(4) Vanderbilt, Northwestern, Emory, UVA, USC, Berkeley

(5) UNC, CMU, WashU, Rice, UCLA, UT Austin, Boston College, Hopkins

Big drop off. Anything  tier 5 and above can be considered somewhat of a target school

(6) Tufts, IU Kelley, Northeastern, Villanova, Wake Forest, SMU

These are based on recruiting, student body size/interest, available opportunities, and ease of breaking in.

Why are you so upset about someone asking a genuine question? Is that not what this site is for? None of those "rankings" mean anything. They're all astroturfed or pay-to-play. I bet you think "Forbes 30-under-30" rankings are legit, and not in anyway promotions? Try-hard loser.

You’re not very bright. First of all, there was never a question asked. Secondly, these rankings serve no purpose aside for people to try and artificially boost up their own school or bank (undeservingly).

In my mind, this site is used for seeing what’s happening in the industry or individual firms, whether it’s deal flow, culture, pay, or anything else like that. It was also useful for recruiting at the undergrad and PE associate level. Then a bunch of autistic high schoolers, freshmen, and some analysts came on in and started making these stupid rankings that mean literally nothing. You’re the loser if you think this is a good way to pass the time.

Would move Brown, Georgetown, and Notre Dame up. They're on par with or better than Duke, Columbia and UChicago for IB recruiting.

Bro what? Brown has like no presence in finance and Georgetown and Notre Dame probably place worse than all of the other schools in their tier and definitely the tier above. Not to mention they’re fully finance focused schools while Cornell, Columbia, Duke, Michigan, and NYU aren’t (more students interested in consulting, STEM, theater, etc.)

Move Notre Dame up, Northwestern up, duke down, brown down. Gotta remember to do these on a percentage basis also—it’s one thing to say Michigan has representation on Wall Street, but as a % of the student body and ease of access it’s not on the same level as some of the others. Doubt Michigan grads are having an easier time breaking in than NU grads even if Michigan is more business focused.

I don’t understand the rationale for Putting MIT in tier 1 yet Brown is a tier below Duke, etc.

Clearly this isn’t ranking on placement volume. as per capita, Brown places as well as all of the schools above it, for those who chase IB. The VP who says it should be in the same tier as USC is also ridiculous—this website sometimes

This list is fairly accurate in my opinion.  I think Northwestern should be moved a tier up and USC a tier down

Idk if NYU and Michigan should be in the same tier as Cornell, Brown, and Georgetown

LACs should be included — Williams, Amherst, Middlebury, Colgate, Hamilton, Bowdoin, Wesleyan, Pomona, Claremont McKenna, etc. all place really really well.
