Full Time Offer, at last! Thanks WSO!

Here's my story:

I will be graduating this semester from a non-target university, majoring finance and accounting, with a decent gpa (3.5 up). I started networking last summer, searching for that IBD full time offer. I was even considering delaying my graduation for one semester with the purpose of landing a summer analyst internship. I really wanted that job in NYC so I took the WSP Advanced Financial Modeling courses, which I knew could help me ace those technical interview questions.

I applied to a URM finance program that places students in BB and F500 jobs. I got rejected. I networked very hard, met bankers, asset managers, and other professionales related to the finance industry, but no response. I contacted head hunters and recruiters via Linkedin, but no response. Even though my main interest was PE, how could I break into PE if I couldn't break into Banking.

I even registered to take the GMAT next August, and apply to some MSF, thinking that I wasn't going to get any job. I kept on networking, this time with local PE shops and boutique advisory firms. I sent e-mails, called, sent resumes, got a couple of interviews but got rejected. A couple of weeks ago a PE shop offered me an interview for a full-time analyst position. I was very excited but nervous during the interview. I interviewed with an analyst, associates and the head partner. They called me back for a second round interview with the other partner of the firm.

I thought, even if I know financial modeling and im good at Excel, my only experience is working in the family business, where I learned to operate the business and improved my sales skills, but I didn't have any finance experience. Last week I received an offer to work with the PE shop I interview with. It was the best feeling ever!! Even though I know I have the potential, when doors close, sometimes it's hard to be positive, but you know what, you can't stop trying.

Even though I don't post much in WSO, I read EVERYTHING you guys post. I want to thank all WSO users that help us Prospective Monkeys improve our interview skills and learn more about how things roll on Wall Street. A few tips for those of you that haven't secured a FT or SA.

Network, Network, Network....Cold call, email, linkedin...any source...just try, try and try. you will get it, doesn't matter if you are from a non-target..Never give up.......!! Thanks WSO.

Congrats. I am very happy for you. Do keep us posted with your progress.

Is the PE firm based in Puerto Rico? That would be interesting. I never knew any fund based there. Do you guys invest in the U.S or The Caribbean/Latin America as well? What sectors do you focus on?

And yeah felicitaciones y buena suerte!

Too late for second-guessing Too late to go back to sleep.

Congrats! WSO is truly a great resource. Glad things worked out for you.

Congrats!! Mind if I ask what your comp will be? I'm also interested in PE and would most likely target boutiques

Super congrats!

Congrats! :) not even comparable to an analyst position (which is what i want someday) But this post just gave me hope and motivation to get a teller position this month. I'm sick of construction.. :P

I think there are better ways to do what you are trying to do. Take that drive and go get your Bachelors if you don't have it already or go get your Masters; working as a teller will not lead to an analyst position. Not trying to be harsh, but if you want to be an analyst, personal banking is equivalent to shooting yourself in the foot.

Hahaha you can see the point in the thread where OP runs out of SB's.

To OP congrats on all of your hard work paying off!
