Entry Level Analyst, Middle Office BNY Mellon Role--Whats the deal?
Not sure where to put this question--in no way am I in the finance industry at all, was told to ask this question here by some of my friends in finance. I am a future law student currently in a gap year between undergraduate and law school. However, LinkedIn has continuously recommended me this position at BNY Mellon for close to a year now. I have two degrees--Political Science and History--that could not be farther from what, I assume, a somewhat prestigious financial institution would want.
My curiosity got the best of me and I decided to at least visit the BNY Mellon careers site, and sure enough, when I inserted my resume into their AI, I was again matched with this same position. When I view the description of the posting, there is no mention of needing a GPA, or even a finance degree. This reads like a posting from a pyramid scheme almost, yet its from one of the oldest financial institutions in our country.
While it is not exactly my career goal to work in finance, some experience would be nice. It would give me a chance to learn about a new industry. If anything, it would be a plus to have some extra cash going into law school. My ultimate questions would be; how legitimate is this? and if it is legitimate, what in the world makes the role so unattractive that the company is willing to advertise to the exact opposite of a target candidate?
