Equity Research to non equities Sales/Trading
Hi All,
I need some advice on the best way to transition from equity research to sales/trading roles that are not equity associated. For context I’m working at a BB in equity research after interning there and am a recent graduate (graduated mid last year) from an Ivy and have a finance degree.
I do like my job however I’ve realised the environment/work isn’t something I’m cut out given the repetitive nature (there’s not so much happening in my sector), the somewhat isolating social environment and most importantly…. given that I’ve developed a keen interest and passion outside of work in other asset classes (namely Fx and commodities). Unfortunately I also took the more math intensive part of my degree my senior year (and ranked at the top) so also didn’t realise I was open to doing something more quantitative when I had accepted the return offer.
I don’t really know how to begin to move to the trading floor and need some guidance. My instinct is to move to the research part of the products first and then make an internal transfer to the trading floor? But given how few seats there are for this I wasn’t sure how to even go about it or if it’s feasible.
