Exits and culture at Goldman Sachs Calgary S&T
Recently had superday with team, strongly considering their office if given an offer over a lower tier BB NY desk…am I dumb for doing so? If I join them I’d be interested in the gas trading/oil trading side of things. Curious to hear about pay/culture/exits there
Commenting to follow. From what I can tell a seat at GS Calgary is an exit
as a follow up I'm pretty sure GS Calgary is the gas trading desk
What if I want to move to NY or Toronto after? And would doing gas trading narrow myself into pretty much only staying in Calg
For the former, GS is a global platform so I'm sure you could transfer if that's what you wanted. For the second part of your question, in general the hubs are Houston/Calgary - not sure if GS NY has a gas desk or not
No shot for Toronto. Goldman trades financial options out of new york historically and always has some origination there. In general if you trade financial gas, moving to new york is pretty easy.
GS Calgary is a good desk.
What if I want to move to New York after a bit or transfer to a different seat?
GS Calgary is great spot if you're interested in gas/commodities. There are many shops in the NE/NY Metro area that trade both physical and financial gas if your ultimate goal is to wind up back in the NY area.
Does this desk have unusually high turnover? I've heard mixed things about culture and workload. See semi-regular postings for Ops personnel.
