Gap Year
I am currently taking a Gap Year (I have done one year of my BSc) and right now I am doing an internship in Sales & Trading at an investment bank in Frankfurt and before that I did an internship at a financial advisory firm in Sweden.
I need to start applying for internships again since I only signed a contract until december (started on the 1st of Aug.).
This is sort of my game plan and I would really appreciate some input:
- I will apply to boutiques in London, Frankfurt and Stockholm (as well as some places in Munich and Hamburg).
- Some European mid-market investment banks.
- Some asset management firms including a couple of hedge funds
- Off-Cycle internships (BNP, SocGen - Are there any other banks doing off-cycle internships starting in jan or feb?)
Now the question is whether I should apply to summer internships as well (the proper ones).... My friend from university got a summer internship with UniCredit in london (S&T) after his first year - so doesn't seem like its impossible... (Note: He didn't have any previous internships)
Should I re-apply for the Spring Weeks in London (I applied last year with no internships on my CV, needless to say I didn't get one - well at least I got an interview with MS)? Or is that just a waste of time?
Thanks in advance
Phil
Do you speak German or Swedish?
Fluent in both.
So, you're looking for an internship for Spring and Summer 2012? What about Dec-Feb? FYI:Offices in Frankfurt are generally hesistant to hire 1st year interns but I mean nothing is impossible considering that you'll be bringing solid work experience to the table.
I am looking at internships to cover most of the time between dec and oct 2012. I know... Germans... they're pretty ridiculous over here. I guess its a bit more "liberal" in the UK... I mean its not exactly unusual that first years get internships in the City. Any other off-cycle internships I could add to the list? What about applying to Spring weeks just for the sake of it?
Well if you have excellent grades you can try applying to DC Advisory in Frankfurt. I know they accepted 1st year students (but they had excellent grades, ECs). Not sure about UK.
