Transition to Stock Trading & Investing

Curious if there are any ex-Investment Bankers / M&A / Wall St. folk who have made a transition to trading/investing as a full-time career. Not at hedge funds but self-employed. I recently made this shift and would be interested to hear anyone else's experience. Additionally, if you manage your own portfolio and can show a verified PnL of your returns over a period of time, does this help at all in recruiting for jobs in this space in the future?
