S&T career (sales)
I am applying for an MBA at NYU next year in finance. What is the best piece of advice to break into a sales and trading desk at a big bank? I have no finance experience but I work in sales and have transferable skills. My plan is to get my MBA in finance and then get a job. Also is it worth working in S&T nowadays? There is not much job security in this space but I love the industry. Or should I look into tech sales?
Thoughts?
They don’t hire many mbas into s&t these days. It’s possible but not what it used to be. I think it depends what you want. Do you want to work in finance and be tied to either NYC, Chicago, or SF? Or do you just like sales? If it’s the ladder then i’d probably say go tech sales.
I like sales a lot but I want to work on the sales side on a trading desk in NYC at one of the big banks. I was hoping an MBA would help with that, especially at NYU since a lot of banks recruit from there.
