Structuring to Flow
Hello,
I recently completed my first year as an S&T analyst in a fixed income structuring/trading role. My desk is a bit of a hybrid and I was able to learn great skills on it. However, I am interested in more of a flow trading role and transitioning internally is difficult and feel that I will probably have to do this job for another year before I am able to ask for a move. I was wondering how hard it is to jump to another banks S&T Analyst program as a 2nd year analyst and what is the process? Also, if i do jump banks, will I lose the the security of the analyst bonus pool which was street standard this year 65-90. Any thoughts would be appreciated...
just curious...why do you want to move from structuring to flow? is it wanting to be in a spot where you can actually take on risk?
a guy i worked with did what you're trying to do within the same BB, though his personality was a little better fit for flow than for structuring from the beginning..
thanks for the reply, I feel the same such that my personality is better fit for a flow desk than structured, I would like to be closer connected to the pulse of the markets, how long did your colleague work in the structuring role before his transition? Internally I would have to wait until at least next June if I am promoted to associate to make the move to a flow desk because of politics and other red tape i forsee...
Seeking, can you explain a little more about your hybrid position? I'm doing LevFin right now and I'd like to get closer to trading and a P&L.
