London Growth Equity Internships

Hi,

Have read a lot about internships being offered for top growth shops, but primarily in the US.

I'm wondering:

1) Which firms offer London internships (for penultimate year students)?

2) Do MFs have growth-specific internships, or is buyout/growth lumped into one?

I'm really not fussed if it's at a pure play, venture or traditional buyout shop. I'm aware of the differences between them, but still find it pretty interesting anyways.

Essentially, I'm looking to enter growth equity from school and would like to find out the best way to do so.

Thanks!

Based on the WSO Dataset, the information specific to London growth equity internships, including which firms offer them and the structure of these internships at mega funds (MFs), isn't directly provided. However, leveraging insights from discussions around internships and recruitment strategies in London, I can offer some guidance that might help navigate your search for growth equity opportunities:

  1. Research and Networking: Start by researching firms that have a presence in London and offer growth equity investments. This can include both pure-play growth equity firms and larger, diversified investment firms with a growth equity arm. Networking, particularly through platforms like LinkedIn or through university alumni networks, can provide more specific insights into which firms offer internships for penultimate year students.

  2. Mega Funds (MFs) Structure: While the context doesn't specify how mega funds structure their internships in terms of separating buyout and growth equity roles, it's common in the industry for larger funds to offer more generalized internships that might cover multiple investment strategies. However, some funds do have specialized teams, and as such, it might be possible to express a preference for growth equity during the application or interview process.

  3. Application Strategy: Given the competitive nature of internships in London, especially within top-tier growth equity shops, it's crucial to tailor your application to highlight your interest and any relevant experience in growth equity. This could include coursework, previous internships, or even personal projects that demonstrate a keen understanding of the growth equity space.

  4. Utilize University Resources: Many top firms recruit directly from prestigious universities, and they often provide specific internship opportunities for penultimate year students. Engage with your career services department to learn about any partnerships or recruitment events with growth equity firms.

  5. Stay Informed and Flexible: The landscape of growth equity is dynamic, and new opportunities can emerge. Stay informed about the industry through news outlets, investment forums like Wall Street Oasis, and by following the firms you're interested in. While having a specific focus is beneficial, being open to related roles in venture capital or traditional buyout shops, as you mentioned, can broaden your experience and potentially lead to growth equity opportunities in the future.

Remember, the key to securing an internship in the highly competitive London finance scene is persistence, networking, and a well-crafted application that clearly communicates your passion for growth equity.
