I just wrapped up my IBD summer internship this summer at a NYC BB, and I know that I want to break into PE/VC after my FT stint. I am curious about when I should start networking with exit opportunities, because I heard the interviews can happen pretty quickly after the FT starts. Also, what should I know about networking with PE/VC that is different than networking with bankers?

PE and VC are pretty different, so you'd probably be better off deciding which one you're more interested in and then focusing the networking on the area you prefer to exit to. That said, you aren't a FT analyst yet so I understand if you don't know what you're leaning more towards. With PE, the recruitment process does kick off super early. And with VC, there isn't much of a concrete process - VC recruitment is pretty ad hoc. So when in doubt, start the PE networking first.
